Meet Your Super Self
Inside each of us, there exists another version of ourselves—one that has already accomplished the things we strive for and has experienced the places we dream of going. It’s like having an older sibling, someone who’s seen and done it all, but here’s the twist: this person is you. Your superpowered self, the part of you that you can turn to for advice, inspiration, and motivation, especially when facing challenges.
I first connected with my super self when I started running. My route took me on a beautiful path down to the Marina in Granville Island. The beginning of the run was a gradual downhill slope, which felt great, and then at the marina, I’d turn and follow a flat path along the beach. Like anyone new to running, I had my fair share of stops and starts, catching my breath and pushing forward again in a rhythm of run, walk, run.
But the real challenge always came at the end. There, a steep hill marked the final leg as I turned away from the beach for those last few minutes. This hill was where I first met my super self.
In my mind, I could see him running beside me, encouraging me to dig just a bit deeper and push just a little further than I felt I could.
“Just keep going,” he’d say. “I know you’re tired, but you’ve got this. Run to that light pole up ahead, and then you can take a walk break.”
The amazing part was that because this super self was simply another version of me, I could trust his words completely. I knew that if he could do it, then I could too. He wasn’t pushing me toward anything impossible, just a gentle nudge to stretch a bit further, to move past the edge of my comfort zone, always with support and encouragement.
Now, think about the challenges you’re facing. Could your own super self be the guide you need to push past whatever barriers stand in your way?
